concept for an installation
In its early years the Votivpark-Garage at the Jonas Reindl was a futuristic, fashionable and sociable space with hostesses on roller skates, a restaurant and a theater ticket office. The architectural intent, still distinguishable in the garage, aims for a statement of luxury and flamboyance – strikingly different to its current status of a strictly functional, unsocial non-space, only a short stop on the way to the more attractive locations. The proposed light sculpture uses the neon light tubes, currently used in the garage, to imitate the 60’s chandelier design and to challenge the current desolate appearance of the garage with a reminder of its past glamour. |
