for english scroll down MusikRaumGarage ist ein öffentlicher Proberaum im 3.Untergeschoß der Tiefgarage Freyung, Wien 1, der jeweils am Dienstag um 21:00 von MusikerInnen aus verschiedenen Richtungen genutzt wird und über live-streaming weltweit verfolgt und im Archiv nachgehört werden kann. Das von Dilruba Erkan und Peter Oroszlany konzipierte Projekt knüpft an „Garage-Music“, die von MusikerInnen in den 1990er Jahren als Stilrichtung geprägt wurde, an. Während die „Garage-Music“ auf die Nutzung von privaten Garagen als Proberäume zurückgeht, arbeitet MusikRaumGarage mit dem ungewöhnlichen, räumlichen Ambiente einer öffentlichen Parkgarage. Die Beiläufigkeit von parkierenden oder langsam vorbeifahrenden Autos sowie von PassantInnen definiert hier den Rahmen für musikalische Experimente, in dem die Alltagsgeräusche der Garage in die Proben/ „Aufführungen“ einfließen. 
MusikRaumGarage is a public rehearsal room on level -3 of WIPARK Garage Freyung, Vienna. Every Tuesday, musicians of various genres give a performance situated between concert and rehearsal, which can be followed via livestream or viewed later from the archive. The concept elaborated by Dilruba Erkan and Péter Oroszlány originates from the idea of using family garages as rehearsal rooms. Re-using the idea of the garage as an off-space for creative activity, MusikRaumGarage gives musicians access to experiment with the particular sound qualities of an underground parking lot. The raw acoustics of the concrete halls complemented by the sound of passing cars defines the unique qualities of the performance space. Between September 2015 and June 2016 – after the project was established – it was lead by Stéphane Clor and Péter Oroszlány. During this period over 30 performances were organized. In the first 6 months the performances were curated by well known musicians from Vienna. Later, MusikRaumGarage organized an open call to give the chance of experimenting with the space to all interested performers. Besides the outstanding musical experiences, MusikRaumGarage recorded an album for the Friendly Guitar Trio and hosted the first Kino am Naschmarkt offspace, as well as the premier of ‘Light-speaker’ by SoniLumatrice and Denny Lightray. MusikRaumGarage is part of the project KunstRaumGarage, which was initiated by WiPARK in cooperation with departure (Bettina Leidl) and University of Applied Arts Vienna (Barbara Putz-Plecko). It is curated by Barbara Holub, and takes place in Garage Freyung and in Votivpark-Garage. |
